SKY’S THE LIMIT: Tero, Mal and Sami hope to break into the UK and Finland music industry with their new band Stellar Sky
Stellar new band reaches for the Sky
Rotherham front man and vocalist Mal Carratt is back on his quest for stardom with new up-and-coming pop-rock band Stellar Sky.
Mal and Finnish bandmates Sami Tenhunen (guitarist) and Tero Tanhuanpää (bass and drums) have just finished producing their breakthrough album Chat to Shadows at the renowned Chartmakers Studio in Helsinki, Finland.
With radio stations and magazines across Europe already interested in their catchy songs, and having been signed to a film and television soundtrack agency in America, it’s an exciting time for the determined band.
“So many things have happened and we’ve all been so close to making it in the past but we’ve picked up and started again,” says Mal.
“Now we’re determined to get our name and music out there, to build on our already increasing following and go wherever the music needs us to go.”
Mal is no stranger to the perks and pressures of fame and the music business. He’s supported the likes of McFly, Mark Owen, Beverley Knight and Natasha Bedingfield as a soloist and in the band Absolution supported 911 at Sheffield Arena.
“I’ve seen how exciting and rewarding the music industry can be and have had a taste of it, but I’ve also seen the amount of pressure there is to stay in the business,” adds Mal. “It’s tough but it’s worth it.”
It was back in the 1990s as a student that Mal first began to seriously explore his musical talents as a vocalist and writer, having written songs for local bands such as Area Fifteen and Vogue.
It was through an online advert that Mal eventually met Sami and Tero in 2007 conquering his fear of flying to jet off to Finland to meet them for the first time.
Luckily they all clicked instantly, finding that they had similar tastes in music, and have spent the last three years writing and recording.
